I'm a HamilFan: Of all things HAMILTON

Hamilton has taken Broadway by storm. The hit musical is breaking barriers and setting records as the story of America's Founding Father is told through a combination of rap, R&B, and hip-hop. As one of the hottest tickets to find in NYC, I was in the room where it happened this summer and witnessed a performance with many of the original cast. It was everything I had imagined, and more.

And that wasn't all. Somehow the Broadway gods smiled down and I was allowed backstage to meet the cast. I stood on the rotating "turntable" stage, held the guns Burr and Hamilton aimed at each other, and then took selfies with Leslie Odom, Jr., Rory O'Malley and many of the other cast.

Tomorrow, PBS airs it's long-awaited documentary on the making and writing of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton. I'm almost as excited to see it. To learn more about what inspired the writing of this masterpiece and how it all came together through seven years of hard work.

There are so many aspects to Hamilton that I love.

As a writer, I marvel at Lin-Manuel's genius. Finding the perfect words, putting them together in the perfect combinations, and telling this story in a new and inventive way.

As a mother, I love how Hamilton has inspired younger generations. My kids refer to this soundtrack as "the history songs."

And as a voter heading into the 2016 Presidential Election, it's a comforting reminder that bitter political rivals, and nasty and dirty campaigns are nothing new. Our country didn't end when Hamilton, Burr and Jefferson were at each other's throats - it will survive Trump and Hillary as well.

There's a million things I haven't done, but seeing Hamilton live in NYC is not one of them. And thanks to PBS tomorrow night, I'll get to relive those memories from this summer and fall deeper into my HamiFandom.
