School is important. It's a kid's job. It's what they're required to do Monday through Friday during normal business hours. But it is not the only way they learn and grow. Far from it. And while my kids and I value their education, take school seriously, and work hard at it, there are times it is not the priority and other events and experiences trump attending school.

INTRONE: Forty is fabulous
When I was in eighth grade my father turned 40. I vividly remember it. We newspapered his office and filled it with black balloons. Black banners with "Over the Hill" were draped across the walls. We threw him a condolence party.
I thought he was so old. At the tender age of 13, I could not imagine what it would be like to be 40 years old.
I found out recently - and it's fabulous.
